First off, should i get electronic drums or acoustic drums. I used to play drums (a long time ago) and wanted to pick back up on it. These are some of the drums that i was looking at.

The number of plies on your drums does not create the actual tonal characteristic of the drum. Lets talk toms specifically. First off all, with toms. The plies affect projection (how loud the drum is). For example, a 6 ply shell will have a crisper sound, but a 10 ply shell will be a little louder. Now, lets talk about depth. Again, a 10×10 tom (10 inches around ten inches deep) will have a lot less projection than a 10×12 tom, however the 10×10 tom will sound crisper. 6 plies is a very common starting place for any drum, unless you are playing in front of 60,000 people I would not go any more than that, its not necessary.
What the drum is made out of affects sound more than anything. Maple has been the standard of quality drums for a long time. It produces a lower, warmer tone than any other wood. Maple shells tend to be a little easier to tune aswell.
If I were to recommend a kit, not brand specific. Go with a 6 ply 100% maple shell kit. Yamaha Tour custom, Pearl Masters, Gretsch catalina, DW. All of these brands make high quality kits that are 6 ply maple shells. Personally, I’d go with a Gretsch catalina or a Pearl Masters.
